Instagram’s profile grid displays each post at a 3:4 aspect ratio (about 1015×1350), center-cropped. But the recommended upload size is 4:5 (1080×1350). That mismatch is why a post that looks perfect in the feed can appear cropped on your profile grid.
What actually happens
- You upload a 4:5 image.
- The feed shows the full 4:5.
- Your profile grid crops it to 3:4 — roughly 33px is trimmed from each side.
How to plan around it
- Keep important subjects away from the extreme edges.
- Preview the 3:4 crop before posting (that’s exactly what Grid Feed Planner does).
- Upload at 4:5 for maximum resolution, but design for the 3:4 grid crop.
